The panels and book shelves in this room are all made from new pine, some solid and some veneered. The challenge for us, in this project, was to make the woodwork appear antique, by losing the almost white colour of new pine and applying a more golden tone, which can be seen in the photos.
The look was achieved by using a variety of chemicals and finishing the wood with traditional wax. The wax gives a dull sheen to the wood, which is the correct finish for this sort of panel.
The project turned out excellently and will only improve in the years to come, as the wood darkens slightly and is maintained with a yearly wax, which we'll apply.
